Magic Mike XXL

Despite all my friends going to watch both the first and second Magic Mike, I have seen neither. It was a little difficult for me to understand what the writers were referring to when they were talking about the different scenes. I’m not sure what the point of Kornhaber’s and Garber’s articles were. To me, I felt like Garber was just saying what she liked and didn’t like, but didn’t give much reason as to why. She didn’t have good explanations for me to see what she was trying to argue. Kornhaber’s article felt as if he were just explaining what happened in the movie and maybe that’s why I couldn’t pinpoint his argument. I think his article was the weakest because it was kind of difficult to see what he was trying to say. There wasn’t any good analyzing of the scenes he was talking about. I think that Gilbert’s article was the strongest of all of the three. She went right to the point about what the movie was about, “There are bros. The bros take their clothes off", and then gets into how the strippers make women feel like “queens”. Gilbert talks about how the movie was more than men showing off their bodies, it was about showing the “hopes and dreams of all its characters”. I believe her article was stronger than the other two because she was analyzing and she was supporting her argument well. Her article was also clearer to read and that’s why I liked it because I wasn’t left confused after reading it like I was with the other two articles. She really did a good job at grabbing my attention. She actually makes me want to watch the movie now, especially when she said “It’s a movie that celebrates the fact that it doesn’t want to make you think”.

  1. Stephanie,
I agree with you that Gilbert's article was the strongest of all three and I think it is because what she said is true and she watched the movie and enjoyed it. I personally watched the movie and agree with her 100 percent.
I disagree with what you said about Kornhaber, he did analyze a lot in his article but I think he did it to show how the men in the movie were free and how they were portrayed in a different way than other movies.

  2. I honestly haven't watch these movies but i understood more about the movie in Gilberts article. so, basically i agree with you. It was hard for me to understand other articles first because I havent watch the movie and second the way they have written it was hard to me understand because i am not a fluent english speaker.

  3. I agree with you Stephanie, Gilbert's article was the main one out of all of them and I think this is because she did watch the movie and she liked it.
I am not sure about your opinion about Kornhaber. I honestly haven't watch the movie so it was kinda difficult to understand what they were aiming for.
