Appearances in Society

Upon reading the article, “Dadbod: A New Word for a Timeless Physique”, I was intrigued to read more about a word I had seen before, but not quite realized why it was such a growing factor to women’s ideals for men. The dadbod is so rejoiced really for men because it gives “regular” guys hope that they can be themselves in a sense and still find a girl, instead of struggling to go to the gym and get the perfect body to woo a girl. Guys can be lazy and eat all they want and not have a six pack and girls would still want them? That is basically a dream come true to guys who despise going to the gym and would rather sit on a couch all day eating chips and drinking a cold beer. The article ends with saying how being categorized doesn’t make you special, but on the contrary makes you just like everyone else and I will agree with that statement. The only opinion I have with that is basically men really wouldn’t care being like everyone else, I mean they have a new word to describe themselves and if girls are looking for the “dadbod” and they fit the description they’re going to be perfectly fine being among the masses.

The second article, “The Death of Pretty” by Pat Archbold stated how girls in today’s world would rather be seen as hot, instead of pretty. Pat expressed a lot of bold feelings towards the whole situation with how girls don’t want to be seen as innocent, but rather as a commodity that is hotness. Regarding the article I would have to agree with the authors opinion that yes, most girls these days really despise being looked at as innocent and would rather be looked at as a mature figure with a hot body. That being said I believe there is nothing wrong with running away from pretty and instead wanting to be “hot”. Girls who work for their bodies and want to show them off should be allowed to freely without being judged, what’s yours is yours and no one has the ability to take or shame someone for that.
