The differences in what genders celebrate

Death of Pretty- Pat Archbold’s main idea in the article “Death of a Pretty” can be summarized by this sentence, “Young women today do not seem to aspire to pretty, they prefer to be regarded as hot.” This article is written by a seemingly frustrated man who expresses how society has changed and women no longer desire to be viewed as innocent. There is a correlation between how women project themselves and the associated attention they will receive from men. The pretty and pure women attract men who wish to protect them, while the hot women will only receive temporary attention. Hotness objectifies women while pretty preserves them. The stars of this age have a huge influence on this societal change. Some names that were mentioned included Miley Cyrus, Lindsey Lohan, and Jennifer Lawrence. I for one believe this article to be extremely exaggerated. Just because women are now free to dress and act however they please, it does not mean this is a complete loss of innocence. Unfortunately, I do agree that how you dress may attract certain kinds of men. Although, who is to say which type of attraction is wrong or right? There are some days I may want to dress “pretty” and some days “hot” not even for the attention of men, but because that is what makes me feel confident. One's outer appearance does not dictate the type of person they are. Frankly, this article left me feeling irked. The author’s first line was even over excessive, “Once upon a time, women wanted to project an innocence.

Dad Bod- “The Dad Bod” may be an old fad or preference by women, but it has now resurfaced with a memorable and refreshing name. Spencer Kornhaber states, “It almost goes without saying that the dadbod regimen of play sports, eat pizza is exactly what pop-culture has long said guys should be doing while women strain to maintain what Vilkomerson calls ‘the holy size zero.’” The dad bod stereotypes a fatherly figure which is on the heavier size. Women love the dad bod because it gives them confidence. They enjoy feeling like the more attractive partner in the relationship. Some even went as far to say those with this body type are better at cuddling and sex. Whether this be true or not, the social media trend is kind of one-sided. There is no mom bod hash tag or overly excited females. Men are posting everywhere how proud they are of their new celebrated physique. The closing line talks of how men with this build are not special but rather they are just like everyone else. There are new social media trends so frequently I don’t think there’s any harm in some newly found confidence. Let the Greek boys who drink too much rejoice in their celebrated beer gut for a while. This whole article is about one’s personal preference.

  1. You pretty much nailed the whole outlook on theses issues. Society tries to make everyone have to follow one certain appearance, when in reality, people should be allowed to chose their own image. It is nobody's right to dictate what an individual is supposed to look like, because everyone has their own opinion of what they find pretty and what they find comfortable to appear in public looking like. I feel that these articles are a little to stereotypical, versus what the reality of what beauty really is, and like I said in my blog, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.
