Appearances

The first article I read was “Dadbod: A New Word for a Timeless Physique” by Spencer Kornhaber. In this article, he talks a lot about the new trend or body image which is called the “dadbod.” The dadbod is a guy with right amount of abs and flab which signifies that he occasionally works out and can still drink a lot of beers. The thesis for this article would be “So take note, dadbods: A catchy name for your physique doesn't mean you're special; it means that finally, you’re just like everyone else.” I do not agree with the idea that we label people fat, skinny, tall, etc. Dadbod is just another label, everyone has their own preferences to what they like in a person.
The second article I read was “The Death of Pretty” by Pat Archbold. The author explains that nowadays girls don’t like to be seen as pretty, but rather as hot. They want to swap out the pretty and innocence to look hot and sexual. The thesis in this article is “Young women today do not seem to aspire to pretty, they prefer to be regarded as hot.” I agree with the author because our generation has pushed girls into looking a certain way. Social media plays a big role in this. All the pictures of celebrities are usually portrayed in a sexual “hot” way. Most girls also see Victoria secret Angels as “goals” because of their body figure and what they look like. We tend to make girls want to grow up faster and look a certain way to fit in the social standard of attractive.
