Feminist Dinner Date

Looking at both these readings and seeing how they both have a familiarity with feminism, I think Terry Cruise would learn a great amount from Caitlin Morgan in the sense that she is bringing a great sense of realism to the truths about problems that women in todays society face including the constant fact about being asked "when are you planning to have babies" or "are you"? I feel as though when Caitlin bring up the subject of women being pressured to have babies and the question being actually disguised and really meaning "when will they leave" or in other word retire and go into a hiding whole where the world has forgotten them. I think she brings up a very valid point that Terry seems to be coming into a realization of. He confesses in the first minutes of the video saying that he was in fact "that man" of ignorance who thought of himself as better and greater that his own wife and family. He confesses to this reality and regards how he has realized that thats not how its suppose to be. Both of them would relate to each other in the sense that they both realize that people have the capacity to think logically but pride and emotion come into play and cloud the judgement of many to do otherwise. They both agree that women do have slightly less power that those that men have automatically imposed for them. If they were at a dinner date together they would have a lot of great idea bouncing off of each other and most significantly come up with a plan as Terry said ," To change the mentality" of the people from this old age idea of women being the subordinate powerless house wife to everyone being a feminist and riding the ignorance that plagues the minds of many that are unaware or to prideful to accept the actual definition that underlies this powerful word. A word that as Terry said is comparable to "the civil rights". There may be slight disagreement that men aren't needed in the world but that in my opinion is a reflex that women have in response to the rudimental fact that "typically" don't care or want to accept feminism.

  1. I honestly don't think that the two on them would actually agree about that much. They would spend some time being nice to each other until they realized that they had vastly differing views on feminism. Crews seems to have a good understanding and grasp of what feminism actually is but Moran goes too far. Terry is probably too nice for there to be any real argument but I don't feel like much would actually be accomplished.

  2. I feel that the two authors have similar views from a macro point of view, but are focused on different things. While Crews is arguing more for the "true" equality of men and woman, Morgan is more arguing about a woman's role in society. I think they both would agree on a lot of things, but would also have some disagreements. I do agree with both of them because i am a feminist and do believe woman shouldn't be "expected" to have children or have a lower stand point in society. I liked when Morgan says "if you’re insanely talented and not at all broody, why not just go have more fun?”. It might sound selfish, but in the end you are the one living you're life. I feel like it’s never too late to have a child. there are plenty of children in the world without homes, meaning even after you're no longer fertile and your career has died down, adoption is always an option and is just as satisfying has actually bearing a child. Kind of hard for me to find things i disagree with because I WANT equality for woman, in the home, streets, and workplace!

  3. I agree on the two having similar views and that they can both learn from each other. At the end of the day they are both feminist in some way and they would probably work on something to help the world if they do get together, just like Terry Crew said "everyone is necessary." I feel like they both have different views and they would probably debate on important things.

  4. I think they would disagree because Crews is trying to have a new view from an old fashioned way of thinking, he's trying to have the best of both worlds. While on the other hand, Morgan represents the newer ideas of how women aren't required to do anything and think that men see them as being below them, or see men as trying to degrade women all the time. I would think Crews would see how having a baby is an incredible thing and would praise women for it, while Morgan would argue that women are worth a lot more than just being able to birth children, which they are. But I believe that men tend to see women for more than what she thinks they do.
