Views on Feminism

Terry Crews and Caitlin Moran views on feminism intrigued me. Both the entertainer and the author shined a light on a matter that is often overlooked: feminism. If Terry Crews and Caitlin Moran sat down together for dinner they would have much to say.

Feminism holds a different meaning to every person. Terry Crews and Caitlin Moran views of the matter are much alike. I think Moran would agree with Crews’ belief that men feel more valuable than women. Like Crews said, we are born into a society where we desire to be accepted. In order to be accepted, we must assimilate to fit in. Most men tries to assimilate with each other by feeling more valuable than women. However, doing such, consequent in generations before us to believe that this is the way to go. Crews compare this to slavery. African Americans were born into slavery. Because of little to none education, the slaves saw no other route, which is why slavery was so successful. The same is happening with gender inequality. There is not enough advocating being done to regress this issue.

Something else that may be discussed between Crews and Moran is the solution to gender inequality. Crews’ solution to the ordeal is altering the mindset. Men think that they are more valuable than women. Women, in return, treat them accordingly. If women could instead see their value, in which they hold within themselves, women would not need men. They would then hold the same amount of value as men, if not, more. This would be gender equality. A woman with the mindset of a man is detrimental to a man because the power a man possess over the woman is now gone. In order to maintain the power, men will continue to degrade women. It is up to women to take note of this and to act.

  1. Firstly, I want to say that I like your analysis of the video and the reading. Even though there are advocates for feminism, it is as you state still overlooked. Though I wouldn’t necessarily say that it is feminism that is overlooked but the topic of gender equality.
If I were to be seated at the table with Terry Crews and Caitlin Morgan discussing views on gender roles, purposes, and feminism with regards to your analysis, we would be at that table for a lengthy amount of time. The reason I say this is because we would go into detail of each point you bring up in your post.
Starting with the belief that most men have the need to make themselves feel more valuable than women. I say “have” because most men are raised with a “mind set” that men are the heads of the household. This leads to the mentality that women are beneath them, when in actuality both can share roles and purposes. There are some women that are the moneymakers while the husband is a stay-at-home dad. Personally, I believe it is those kind of couples that have broken through the “mind set.” They will serve as an example that neither gender is above the other and that it is ok for people to stray from their gender norms in reagards to roles/purposes.

  2. I completely agree with your viewpoint. Isn't it refreshing to hear a man like Crews admit that he is a feminist? As y'all mentioned, he explains how men feel they are better than women and it is often misconstrued that feminists believe that women are superior, which isn't the case. Crews wishes for gender equality. Morgan brings up the topic of women and having children. As I was reading this, I realized how often I've been asked if I'm "a kid person" or how often I see my friends, relatives, or others being asked when they are going to have kids. It's an interesting and offensive assumption that is made all the time. If Crews and Morgan had dinner together I believe they would get into a very interesting topic about gender stereotypes and how to address equality.

  3. I agree with you completely, when I read that I was able to relate with it.I am little big in body lot of people just come up to me and ask me some questions and after couple minutes they ask me how many kids do I have. One time I was working in mall at a booth and this guy just randomly came up to me and asked me how many kids do I have and I was so shocked and offended.
It is really amazing to listen to a man like Crew, there aren't many guys left like hime.

  4. I agree with this a lot. Men do think they are better than women, and that make us feel less superior. Gender equality should be a social norm. We should from here out have a mindset that woman and men are always equal, men aren't better than woman and woman rent better than men. Then when it comes to woman and having kids I think that it shouldn't be assumed that woman will have kids. It shouldn't be "when" it should be "Do you want to?"
